What to do if you have lost your PAN Card?
June 15, 2017
Your PAN card is one of the most important documents. Moreover, if you are a taxpayer then having a PAN is a must. So, what if you lose it on a bus or train? What should you do in such situation?
Filing a FIR
One of the most important things to do when you lose your PAN card is to file a FIR. This is to ensure that if any illegal activity takes place using your PAN card you can use the FIR as a proof that you are not responsible for it. Plus, it can also help in nabbing a potential identity thief before they can cause any damage.
If you don’t want to visit a police station in person or can’t for some reason, then you can also register a FIR with the Citizen Cop app. Not only this app allows you to register an FIR easily, it also provides a copy of the same for you to keep.
Applying for a Lost PAN Card
Once you have registered a FIR, it’s time to apply for a lost PAN card. Fortunately, the government has made the process easy through their official website. Just go to https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan_bup/ and click the “Reprint of PAN card” link. Fill in the required details and make the payment (which is about Rs. 107). That’s it! A duplicated PAN card will be delivered to your address within 14 days.
