Why Picking the Right MBA Specialization is Very Important?
October 16, 2018
Master’s in Business Administration a.k.a. MBA is easily one of the most popular courses around the world. Whether you come from a management background or a non-management background, you can benefit from an MBA program if you get an entry into a decent business school. However, apart from the course itself, you must also think about choosing the right specialization viz. human resources, finance, business operations, etc. This is because:
Generalization makes you incompetent
The top-level management in every organization is comprised of various executives. For instance, there are HR managers who recruit and train new talent, manage payroll, and assess the performance of the working employees. Similarly, there are marketing managers who set marketing budgets, plan campaigns, and oversee the marketers in their research and market analysis.
If you don’t have a specialization, it can be extremely challenging to get a good job even after you have earned an MBA degree. To succeed in your career, you must find a domain that you find interesting and in which you are good at.
It helps you play to your strengths
No one is the best at everything. For instance, you could be a people person and good at resolving disputes but maybe not as good when it comes to crunching numbers. Similarly, you may hate managing supply chain for a company but are otherwise good at marketing. So, you can use your abilities to improve sales and extend the reach of an organization.
The takeaway here is that you can choose an ideal specialization on the basis of your strengths and innate skills to find jobs that you love, and accelerate your career progress.
