2.5 Lakh Indian Companies at Risk of Being Closed for Being “Dormant”

About 250,000 companies, which failed to apply for “dormant company” status and have not been engaged in any business activity since past 2 financial years are facing the possibility of being dissolved by the government.

The Registrar of Companies (RoC) issued public notices during the past two weeks in which it mentioned the names of about a quarter million companies (of which 53,000 are in Delhi and 71,000 are in Mumbai) which didn’t get their status updated to “dormant company” as per Companies Act, 2013. If the involved companies won’t object, their names will be struck off and the entities will be dissolved.
