20 mn Non-Filers Identified by CBDT, Asks IT Dept to Take Action

As many as 20.4 lakh non-filers were identified by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) recently and it’s has asked the Income Tax (IT) department to take punitive action against them by June 30.

IT Department’s non-filer monitoring system (NMS) has identified 20.4 million non-files between 2013 and 2018 out of which 2.5 are consistent and dubbed “dropped filers”. An assessing officer said that the department is issuing notices to these entities across the country and that the proceedings shall be initiated soon.
