40 mn New LPG Connections Created Under Ujjwala Yojana in FY19
As many as 40 million new LPG connections were created under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during the financial year 2018-19. This marks a growth rate of 45% on a year-over-year basis.

The top 3 players in the oil marketing industry i.e. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Indian Oil Corporation have set a joint target of adding 42.5 million customers by the end of the financial year i.e. end of March.

Although the PMUY scheme has given a major push to the clean energy across the country, it’s increased the burden on the exchequer as well. According to the government data, the LPG subsidy during the first three quarters of the current financial year was 23% higher than last year during the same period.
