57,500 Mobile Towers to be Installed in Rural Areas in FY20, Says Ravi Shankar Prasad

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha this Wednesday, Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the telecom companies aim to install more than 57,500 towers for mobile connectivity in rural areas during the financial year 2019-20. He also said that as of today, around 5.54 lakh villages have access to mobile services while 43,088 don’t.

Prasad said that some of the reasons behind lack of mobile connectivity in some villages include commercially non-viable operations, the scattered population in some areas, and remote and tough terrain.
