Additional 4 Lakh Berths to be Offered in Trains Every Day on the Back of Green Technology

According to a few senior government officials, passengers of Indian Railways will get access to additional 4 lakh berths starting October on the back of a new green technology that allows the replacement of power generation cars with sleeper coaches. At present, most trains have power cars that carry diesel generators to supply power to all the coaches for lighting, air conditioning, etc.
The officials said that around 5,000 coaches of the trains will be modified to house the new technology so that the trains can receive power from the overhead cables.
