Adityanath Cancels Bids for 3,800 MW Power in UP

Leaving the power plants to find other long-term buyers, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has canceled the bids carried in 2016 to acquire 3,800 MW of power from independent producers. According to a report, this decision was taken after UPPTL and the central power ministry observed that the state is self-sufficient in producing enough electricity between 2018 and 2022.

Analystsbelieve that the government’s decision will improve the state’s power situation as it has also joined the Centre’s “24X7 Power for all” scheme, which is likely to be one of the reasons behind it. Availability of cheap power in the spot market could also be another reason.
