Bank Employees Yet to be Paid for Overtime, Threaten Action

Bank staff that worked overtime during the note-ban is yet to be compensated for the same by the government. In that regard, the unions have threatened to go on strike and take the matter to the judiciary if the money is not cleared by the authorities.

In November 2016, the union government decided to scrap the notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000, due to which nearly 86% of the currency was wiped out from the system. As individuals and businesses all across the country headed to the banks and post-offices to deposit/exchange the old currency with the new one, employees of these organizations came under severe stress and had to work long hours.

For every additional hour, a bank’s employee is supposed to receive Rs. 100 to Rs. 300.
