Bring Petroleum Under GST for Consumer Benefit: Dharmendra Pradhan

Opining that there must be a “uniform tax mechanism” all across the country, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said he has urged the Ministry of Finance to bring the petroleum products under the GST regime so as provide relief to the consumers.
Pradhan said tax rationalization is necessary for consumer interest. Currently, two taxes are imposed on petroleum products i.e. state VAT and central excise, which is why he is seeking uniform tax mechanism on the same.
Pradhan, however, stood by the daily price mechanism that’s been implemented recently and said that domestic rates are calculated on the basis of international rates and the consumers are getting the appropriate rates.
