Canara Bank’s Capital Adequacy Higher than RBI Benchmark: CEO Rakesh Sharma

Rakesh Sharma, who is the CEO and Managing Director of Canara Bank, has welcomed the center’s decision to dilute its stake to 52% with through the recapitalization of the state-run banks, as the lender’s health shows signs of improvements. However, he also said that the (Canara) bank is in a healthy financial state with its capital adequacy being above the RBI benchmark.

Sharma said that the capital adequacy ratio of Canara’s bank has jumped from 11.08% to 12.86% this year as per the Basel-III norm, and the Tier one ratio and CET ratio are at 9.77% 8.92%.
