Committee Report Suggests Doubling the National Minimum Wage
An expert committee submitted a report to the government in which it’s proposed that the national minimum wage should be increased to ₹9,750 per month which is close to twice what’s today. It’s also recommended that an additional ₹55 should be offered as HRA for the urban workers every day.

The committee submitted its January report this Thursday in which it suggested an alternative plan that comprises minimum wages ranging from ₹8,892-11,622 per month for 5 different regions in accordance to their varying labor market and socio-economic situations. It also said that house rent is a major expense and can be provided as HRA with the minimum wage although it shall vary from one city or town to another.
