Cooperative Banks Asked to Improve Management Practices to Stay Relevant
In view of the declining performance and shrinking market share of the Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs), RBI has asked them to improve their management and governance practices to maintain their position in the market and prevent losing more customers.

Since 2002, when the Madhavpura Cooperative Bank scam came to light, UCBs have been losing their market share on a consistent basis. In FY 2001-02, their market share stood at 6.4% but has now dropped to a mere 3.3% as recorded in FY 2016-17, RBI deputy governor NS Vishwanathan said.
