Demonetization Cost 1.52 Lakh Casual Workers their Jobs: Labour Bureau Survey

According to a quarterly report released by the Labour Bureau about 1.52 lakh workers lost their jobs during October to December 2016. This is expected to have a direction connection with the government’s demonetization movement in November 2016 when notes of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 were banned.

As per the report, the number of full-time workers had increased by 1.68 lakh and the part-time workers reduced by 46,000. As for the casual workers, there was a massive drop of 1.52 lakh in eight sectors viz. manufacturing, transportation, IT, etc. comparing to last year’s quarter.
