Demonetization Effect: MFI Securitisation Reduces by 79%

According to Vibhor Mittal, ICRA head-structured finance, the impact of demonetization on MSI securitization volumes has caused a drop of 79% in the second half of the FY17’. This is in accordance with the fact that microfinance institutions raised Rs. 5,500 crore in the first half of FY17’, while they were able to raise only Rs. 1,650 in the second half via securitisation, thus making the total of Rs. 7,150. However, in FY16’ they raised Rs. 9,000 crores, an 80% growth from the previous fiscal, and 79% growth from the current fiscal.
