Diesel Locomotives to be Converted to Electric, Says Piyush Goyal
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal who was addressing a FICCI summit recently, said that the Indian Railways is looking to convert the existing diesel locomotives to electric locomotives. This will help save as much as $2 billion every year and prevent a situation in which the passengers have to be charged more instead.

Goyal said that the government is working on electrification of the railways in a grand manner.  He also said that the existing locomotives that will be replaced by their electric counterparts will be used in border areas as backups.
