October 22, 2018
A legal opinion is sought by the Department of Telecom (DoT) from the sector regulator TRAI on the setting up of an ombudsman that can offer an impartial hearing to the complaints of telecom subscribers. The TRAI Act might be modified for the provision of ombudsman which will have the power to penalize telecom operators and to provide adequate compensation to the consumers.
On May 1, Telecom Commission gave a green signal to the setting up of an ombudsman under the guidance of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) with an aim to empower mobile users.
