E-Pharmacies May Soon Get New Rules and Regulations

E-pharmacies, especially those who sell prescription drugs may soon need to modify their business practices as the health ministry is planning to roll out new regulations for the online sale of drugs.

According to an official, the ministry has already drafted the regulations by amending the Drugs and Cosmetic Rules, 1945. These have been shared with the state governments and the final decision will be based on their comments as well as those from the drug regulators.

One of the major changes that the new rules will bring is the mandatory registration of e-pharmacies with a central authority. In addition to that, they will be barred from the sale of tranquilisers, narcotics, and psychotropic drugs.
