E-Way Bill Pilot Program: 4 States Generating 1.4 lakh Bills a Day

As the full-fledged e-way bill program is set to be rolled out across the nation on February 1, 2018, the government has started a pilot program of the same in four states viz. Kerala, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Karnataka.
The Goods and Services Tax network is receiving and handling 1.4 lakh bills generated by these states per day.
The e-way bill is aimed at streamlining the process of movement of goods as well as curb evasion. In addition to that, it shall eliminate the need to go to any check post or tax office as the bill can be generated electronically with the help of a “self-service” mode.
