. e-Way Rules to Increase Compliance Burden for Smartphone, White Goods Retailers

According to the experts, the new e-way rules that are implemented in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime will lead to increased compliance burden for the retailers, especially those who sell laptops, smartphones, and white goods such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, etc. This is because the rules are applicable even “for reasons other than supply”. So, whenever some assets are to be transported even in the same state, an e-way bill has to be provided.
Retailers also complain that businesses under the composition scheme are also required to the e-way rules although the whole idea of the scheme was to make compliance easier for the small businesses.
