Ecommerce Giants Monitor Platforms for Banned E-Cigarettes

This Thursday, e-commerce leaders Amazon and Flipkart said that they are monitoring their platforms to ensure that sellers don’t sell e-cigarettes now that the government has imposed a ban on the same. Today, production, import, export, transport, and even sale or advertisement of e-cigarettes can invite jail term and fine.

Amazon said that the products listed on the website are owned or sold by third-party sellers and they themselves are responsible for compliance with the laws. As per company policy, tobacco products including Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS) aren’t allowed to be sold on the platform, the company said.

A Flipkart spokesperson said that the company is aware of the ban and has alerted its teams to monitor the website.
