Facebook to invest to build responsibly metaverse
Facebook Inc will invest $50 million to partner with organizations to responsibly build the so-called metaverse a digital world where individuals can use different gadgets to move and communicate in a virtual ecosystem, it said on Monday.
Facebook, the world’s biggest social network, has invested vigorously in virtual reality and augmented reality, developing hardware, for example, it’s Oculus VR headsets and dealing with AR glasses and wristband technologies.
The new XR Programs and Research Fund will put away the money globally for more than two years to guarantee metaverse technologies are “built in a way that is inclusive and empowering,” Facebook said.
The organization said it intends to work with researchers across four regions including data privacy and safety, to allow clients to find support if something they find in the metaverse makes them feel uncomfortable.
It will likewise research how to design technologies that are comprehensive and available to all clients, and furthermore “encourage competition” in the nascent industry, Facebook included a blog post.

Facebook has faced scrutiny on a wide range of internet issues, for example, the spread of disinformation and social media’s negative impact on teens.
