Farm Loan Waivers Worst Solution for Agriculture Sector Problems, Says SBI

Although the Central Government is pondering over offering farm loan waiver to woo voters before the 2019 general elections, the economists at SBI Research said that it’s the “worst solution” for the problems faced by farmers today.
They suggest that instead of loan waivers, the government must take bold steps and work on income support schemes.
According to a news report, the Modi government is planning to spend ₹70,000 crores on farm debt waivers till May next year i.e. when the general elections will be held.
