Farmers Not Getting MSP, Says Agriculture Minister

Agriculture minister Radhamohan Singh recently raised the issue of the farmers not getting the minimum support price (MSP).

During the question hour in the Rajya Sabha, Singh said that in his experience of the area between Delhi and Kolkata, the MSP of paddy is not reaching the farmers. He said that there are many items for which the MSP is announced and if the prices go below the MSP, then the government has to buy them under a price support scheme.

Several ministers supported Singh’s argument and raised questions about the steps taken for increasing the income of the farmers.
