Fresh Capacity Addition in Thermal Power Drops by 69%
As green energy continues to gain momentum, fresh energy addition in thermal and hydropower dropped by 69% during April-November this financial year. The data shared by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) shows that the last financial year, 4,300 Mw worth of thermal power was added, but this year, only 1,330 Mw worth of power was added.
 
Sources say that the thermal power sector is facing massive competition from the renewable energy sources and that the power purchase agreements are also drying up. At present, India has 72.01 Gw of rated capacity in renewable energy.
