Fuel Taxes: Centre Receives 37% Less than States
September 29, 2018
As per a recent media report, if the ex-refinery taxes make up for as much as 50% of the fuel sold around the country, then the state governments receive a lion’s share of them all. For instance, if a customer pays ₹80 for one liter of petrol in Delhi, then it means the state government receives ₹24 and the central government only ₹15. The tax is levied on the combined value which comprises refined petrol cost, central excise duty, and dealer’s commission.
