Gig economy to get social security benefits

Gig workers, who don’t have any defensive cover, have a shot as the Union Government has chosen to extend social security benefits. A unique entry is being set up wherein gig laborers can enlist and think about applicable plans.

“For the first time worldwide, government managed social security benefits will stretch out to gig and stage laborers,” Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman has said while introducing the Budget for 2021-22.

The advantages proposed in the Budget would incorporate least wages and wellbeing cover under the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

The Budget additionally proposed permitting ladies to work in all classifications and the night-shifts with sufficient insurance.

Least wages will be applied to all classes of laborers. They will all be covered by the Employees State Insurance Corporation,” she said.
