“Give it Up” Train Ticket Subsidy in Consideration by Indian Railways

As the Indian Railways looks to boost its revenue, it’s pondering over a “give it up” scheme under which the passengers can be asked to sacrifice the subsidies on their train tickets.

A senior railways official said that a 100-day plan has been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office that aims at pushing the earnings of Indian Railways. They said that Indian Railways recovers only 53% of the cost of a ticket from passengers and the rest is given back as subsidy. This poses a big challenge for revenue generation.
