Google Awaits RBI Approval for UPI Services as Testing Phase Ends

Search engine giant Google has completed the testing of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service and now seeks a green flag from the Reserve Bank of India to roll out the service across the nation. According to National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Facebook is also in the line to launch its version of UPI-payment services in the country. However, Whatsapp just received NCPI’s approval to partner with multiple banks and offer UPI payments on its platform.

A P Hota, Managing Director and CEO NPCI said that Google is more likely to come first as it’s testing is complete now, adding that they have sent an application to the RBI seeking approval with regard to the same.
