Government Calls Meeting to Find Ways for Using Surplus Cash of Rs. 2.7 Lakh Crore

To figure out the most optimum ways of using surplus cash of about Rs. 2.7 crore the government has called a review meeting today. It will be chaired Seema Bahuguna, Secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises, and briefed by officials from several ministries including railways, shipping, oil, etc.

According to a senior government official, the objective of the meeting is to decide the “optimal utilization” of the excess cash generated by the Public Sector Undertakings. Possible ideas include using the money for reviving the sick enterprises, etc.  If the PSUs are not able to use the funds then they may be asked to buy back shared using free reserves.
