Government Pondering Public Wifi Interoperability
According to an official from the Department of Telecom (DOT), the Center is entertaining the idea of offering interoperability for public wi-fi systems which can make Internet access a seamless experience for the users.

As of today, only 3.7 lakh Wi-Fi hotspots have been deployed by the industry although the commitment was to roll out 1 crore Wi-Fi hotspots by the end of 2019, Telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan said. He said that DOT is actively working with TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) and several telecom companies to implement an interoperable public wi-fi network so that the people can avail a seamless experience and that the small entrepreneurs can also generate new revenue sources.
