Government to Make Export Benefit Scheme MEIS GST-Compliant

The government will make edits in the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS) to make it GST-compliant, as confirmed by Neeraj Prasad, Additional Commissioner, GST Cell, Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). The official also said that the government is also mulling over how to resolve the issue of working capital requirements under the GST taxation system.
Under the MEIS scheme, the government gives duty benefits up to 5% on several products depending on the country they are exported to and the nature of the product itself.
