Govt aims to be better with 60 ideas

The Centre has sought ‘action plans’ from various ministries on 60 new ideas like bringing down the ‘cost of doing business in India, replacing various environmental legislation with a single Environment Management Act, opening up beach and sand minerals mining to the private sector and indigenous manufacture of low costs tablets to take education to poor children.

As a development of the September 18 interaction of the prime minister with secretaries of all union ministries and departments, 60 ideas and suggestions across areas have been distinguished as desirable. The Cabinet Secretariat has identified the lead services to take these suggestions forward and furnish action plans for their implementation.

For example, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) has been tasked with a project to develop minimal cost tablets and workstations to help provide online education to poor children while the Education and Social Justice ministries are to chip work on remedial teaching and bridging the digital divide.

A whole set of plans has been shared with the Department for Promotion Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) from examining whether certain permission should be done away without any ease of Doing Business to assessing the ‘Cost of Doing Business’ in India.
