Govt announces PLI scheme for telecom sector

Government of India has approved ₹12,000 for PLI scheme for telecom gear manufacturing in the country which is expected to encourage production of equipment and create direct and indirect employment for 40,000 individuals.

The PLI scheme for telecom gear manufacturing will be operational in next few months.

Telecom Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said, “In the next few years we wish to have increased production of ₹2,44,200 cr, export worth ₹1,95,360, direct and indirect employment to 40,000 individuals and tax revenue of ₹17,000 cr of the nation”.

According to the statement, the scheme is expected to bring infusion of ₹3,000 cr and generate huge direct and indirect employment and taxes both. Government is positioning India as a global powerhouse for manufacturing, and has created a favorable ecosystem for ease of doing business.

Telecom Minister said, “Cabinet has approved PLI scheme for telecom sector to ensure progress in Make in India in telecom equipment space. We held consultation with stakeholders as well”.
