Govt Revenue Collection from Telecom Companies Dropped by 22% in FY18
January 08, 2019
Union Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha recently informed the Parliament that the government’s revenue collection from the telecom industry witnessed a steep drop of 22% in the financial year 2017-18 owing to low profits earned by the service providers themselves.
The government collects revenue from the telecom sector in the form of spectrum usage charge (SUC) and license fee. In FY18, its revenue from the license fee went down by 18.12% from the previous year. Similarly, the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) declined 18.62% from the previous financial year.
