Govt. Starts GST Awareness Campaign for Consumers

The government has started spreading awareness about GST through a variety of media channels to inform the common man how the new regime will help reduce costs. In several leading dailies, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has put advertisements that show which goods are completely exempt from the Goods and Service Tax and which will be charged a small 5% GST.

In a recent interview, Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said that although the government has made sure that the new taxation system doesn’t lead to increase in prices, some sellers may try to demand higher rates, which is why consumer awareness is necessary.
