GST Regime: Luxury Cars and Pan Masala to Become Costlier

The center and the states have decided to impose a cess of 204% on pan masala, 12% on the aerated drinks, and 15% on luxury cars under the GST regime which is set to be launched on July 1. A peak rate has been fixed at 28% for demerit and luxury goods.

Some other important changes include:

  • Cess of 21% on cigars or Rs. 4,170 per 1000 sticks (whichever is higher)
  • Cess of 1% on small petrol cars, and 3% on diesel cars
  • Cess of 15% on luxury cars, with engine capacity more than 1500cc
  • Cess of 5% on filter and non-filter cigarettes
