GST Should not be Launched with “Jugaad”, Says Amit Mitra

Emphasizing that the country is not ready for GST yet, West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra said that the council should not launch it on 1st July with “Jugaad” and rather postpone the date by one month. He also said that while West Bengal has been always ahead in GST implementation, the regime should be shaped in a way that it benefits the common man and small traders alike.

Mitra said that the formats of the reports to be filed in the GST regime are not even ready yet and will be made available only by the end of the month. When asked if West Bengal is GST-ready, he said that there is one final GST council meeting to be held on June 18 that will determine the same.
