Handling Bad Loans Top Priority: Arun Jaitley

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has stated that dealing with bad loans has become the top priority for the government, as the non-performing assets (NPAs) are affecting the Indian banking system negatively.

Talking on the subject of Foreign Relations, Jaitley said that the resolution of the NPAs is a “big challenge”, and hence a priority. He added that the gravity of the situation is the fact there are 20 to 30 big accounts that have to be dealt with.

“It’s not because leadership in the banking sector is not up to the mark, but because the environment in which the bureaucracy functions is a big constraint”, Jaitley said.
