HDFC ERGO Sets up Remote Sensing Lab for Crop Insurance
In a bid to receive accurate assessments of the risks and receive early warnings of crop losses, private general insurance company HDFC ERGO General Insurance has built a remote sensing lab for crop insurance.

The insurer’s executive management representative Anurag Rastogi said that with the lab, they will be able to make scientific assessments and prepare the teams in advance. Earlier, many farmers would submit fraudulent data about crop yields to raise claims after which physical assessments were carried out by the insurers. Thus, the Agriculture Ministry is now promoting the use of technologies like drones that can conduct an accurate and easy assessment of the crop yields.
