India Ranks 4th in the World for Economic Losses, Lost $80 bn to Natural Disasters in Two Decades
According to the report “Economic Losses, Poverty and Disasters” released by United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), India lost a cumulative amount of $79.5 billion in the past 20 years due to natural calamities. The report said that climate change is putting a massive economic burden on the lower income countries including India and that India ranks 4th on the list of top 10 countries that reported financial losses due to disasters. The US tops the list having lost $945 billion.
