IRDAI Asks Insurers to Offer Medical Insurance for Mental Health
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has directed the insurance companies to cover mental health conditions including medication and hospitalization in their policies. This move can be highly advantageous to the people suffering from mental conditions whose treatments can be quite expensive. For instance, therapy treatment which is one of the most common treatments for mental problems costs anywhere between Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,000 per session.

At present, most companies don’t cover treatments for mental problems including the biggest players like Religare Health Insurance, Apollo Munich Health Insurance, etc.
