Kerala Deluge May Increase Fiscal Deficit to 5.4%
According to an estimate by ratings agency Acuit Ratings, the Kerala deluge has cost the state at least 2.2% of its GDP which may push the fiscal deficit to 5.4% this financial year. In the financial year 2017-18, it stood at only 3.4%.

The disastrous Kerala floods have damaged over 50,000 acres of crops, hundreds of bridges and about 90,000 km of roads. They have also completely destroyed more than 10,000 homes all of which converts to an unfathomable loss of Rs. 35,000 crores, the state administration has said.
