Online grocery market to grow eight times in India

As the Reliance retail’s JioMart being the newest entrant with a major potential to disrupt the market, the next big thing is the delivery of groceries online and the market size is estimated to grow eight times in India.

As grocery giants put their dollar in serving daily grocery at doorsteps, online grocery is the next battleground for growth. The e-grocery segment is growing rapidly since last year as it is expected to grow approximately by 50% in the first half of this year.

Demand for the comfort foods picked up after the pandemic while essentials remained strong.

Anil Kumar, Founder and CEO of RedSeer said, “The traditional brands which are available on digital platforms have seen high growth in sales compared to offline brands”.

Satish Meena, Senior Forecast Analyst (Forrester) said, “Grocery is the huge retail category, which makes it important category for retailers and one which is going to boost growth of future sales”.
