Petrol, Diesel Cars to Get Expensive to Nudge Buyers Towards Electric Vehicles
The government is looking to have Department of Heavy Industries maintain a corpus that can be used to incentivize electric car and battery manufacturers. It’s also going to levy a higher surcharge on traditional vehicles starting from ₹500 to ₹25,000 in the first year and gradually increasing up to ₹90,000 in the fourth year. 

A meeting of held among various ministries recently in which it was decided that they need to incentivize the vehicle buyers rather than manufacturers. It was also proposed that the government can support domestic manufacturers of electric vehicles.
