Price Fluctuations Result in Increased Export Volumes in FY17

According to the data maintained by the commerce ministry, the volumes of exports during the financial year 2016-17 increased at a high rate, even though the value of merchandise export increased by merely 5%. This is indicative of how fluctuations in the prices of global commodities affect the value of India’s exports.

In FY16 as well, when the commodity prices dropped, many items such as coffee, spices, bulk drugs, unmanufactured tobacco, etc. managed to overcome the global crash as the export value of these commodities increased.
