Punjab National Bank Issues Warning Against Phone Scams and Provides Important Customer Updates

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has issued a cautionary advisory to its customers, urging them not to trust phone numbers, addresses, or other bank-related information found via search engines or third-party websites.

This warning comes in response to reports of fraudulent individuals posing as PNB officials, using the bank’s name to promote fake products and deceive consumers through phone calls and SMS messages.

The bank clarified on its website that PNB does not engage in unregistered telemarketing calls or SMS solicitations for life insurance or any other products.

To safeguard customer interests, PNB has implemented certain transaction limits. For deposit accounts at non-parent branches or branches other than the base branch, cash transactions exceeding Rs 5 lakh using individually issued cheques will not be honored.

Additionally, PNB will only honor cheques based on the available balance from the previous day, taking into account withdrawals made on the current day.

Customers are reminded that mobile numbers linked to their accounts and set up to receive SMS alerts are required for making cash payments to third parties at non-base branches. The daily cash withdrawal limit is set at Rs 50,000 for savings accounts and Rs 1,00,000 for current accounts.

In a customer-centric move, PNB has announced the suspension of its old toll-free numbers (18001802222, 18001032222) effective June 30, 2024, replacing them with new toll-free numbers: 18001800 or 18002021. Customers are advised to use these new numbers for assistance and inquiries.

These measures are aimed at enhancing customer security and preventing fraudulent activities. PNB encourages customers to stay vigilant, verify communications directly with the bank, and report any suspicious activities promptly to safeguard their financial interests.
