Rural economy under stress due to the nationwide lockdown
April 27, 2020
The complete lockdown in the nation with rain in many areas has increased the rural stress which is creating problems for the farmers. The disruption in wholesale markets and delivery has affected the rural economic system.
Farmers are selling the produce at a cheap price and their leaders said there was an emerging credit crisis. The absence of a subject-stage assessment by insurance companies is making the compensation hard.
Avik Saha, convener, All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, said, “There is a shortage of food in the country and it should be addressed or else it would create a problem. Everyone is trying to help the weaker section of the society but we are facing problems”.
