SBI Branch Opened 2,000 Fresh Accounts: CBI Suspects Black Money Channelization

A recent CBI probe led to the revelation of about 2,441 fresh accounts opened in a SBI branch of Bareilly till December 31, shortly after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi implemented demonetization.

According to the source, CBI had conducted a surprise check in the Civil Lines SBI branch of Bareilly on 2nd January in which it found that large amounts of cash were deposited in the bank in the form of old notes, and thus suspected the involvement of black money. It also found that there were 794 instances in which cash deposits of over Rs. 1 lakh were made. As of now, they are investigating further.
