SEBI Proposes Stringent Norms for Credit Rating Agencies

Market regulator SEBI has asked the government to draft stringent norms for the credit rating agencies, registrar, debenture trustees, and share transfer agents.

Currently, only clearing corporations, depositories, and stock exchanges are considered as Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs). However, SEBI has proposed to bring credit rating agencies, registrar, and debenture trustees, and share transfer agents under the same category.

The proposal was made in consideration of the industry practices followed by global organizations and inputs from the market stakeholders.
